Free online workshops this week for visitor economy and tourism business
Eden DC are delivering some free online workshops for SMEs in the Eden District in partnership with Redkite Innovations. If you are a visitor economy or tourism business you can register for these workshops:
Keeping your customers communications going and marketing for post Covid-19
Preparing for post Covid-19 virus and Brexit
Discretionary small business grants
I circulated details of this scheme previously, but with a caveat not to get too excited, as it excluded businesses that could claim under the Government's Self Employed Income Support Scheme. Happily, following lobbying by various organisations, this exclusion has now been overturned. The updated guidance for local authorities can be seen here:
Within the framework of that guidance, local authorities set their specific eligibility priorities and criteria, and you can see the latest from Eden DC here:

Visitor Messaging/Facebook
Hopefully you already follow our official visitor Facebook page www.facebook.com/VisitAlstonMoor/ If you don't, then please do! AMBA manages this page. We're aware of the conflict on Facebook that has arisen with the motorcycling community within the past few days. We will be discussing as a committee how we address that, balancing our community and business needs. One of the motorcycling community has reached out via the Absolutely Alston Facebook group, and by way of response some businesses have already posted some positive messages that we welcome motorcyclists, as have some individuals within our community, so that has helped redress the balance to a degree.
'Alston Accommodation Forum' Facebook Group
Guy Harmer from our committee, known to most as the owner of The Cumberland, has set up a closed group on Facebook for Alston Moor Accommodation providers. If you're in this sector then look for the 'Alston Accommodation Forum' group and he'll let you in!
